After shifting a few tens of pixels, at some point (several tens of pixels yet to go)
the images jump uncontrollably. This happens at a certain pixel location (i.e. one more
pixel shift and it 'jumps').
This happens for only 24-bit images, not 45-bit. It happens when the
lefthand edge of the righthand image crosses the lefthand edge of the window.
Workaround
Scroll the window so that the lefthand edge of the overlap doesn't cross the lefthand
edge of the window.
