"Out of memory" error when stitching long, thin images

V1.6, V2.0 - V2.4

Description

Images that are not square require more RAM than necessary to stitch.  This is a significant effect only when the images are very long (or tall) and thin.

In extreme cases this can cause the "Out of memory" error.

This problem is not significant for stitching ordinary images from digital cameras (3x4) or film cameras (2x3).

Workaround

None.
