The zoom controls are also available in the View menu.
But I would also like to help you find the zoom controls on the tool bar. Sometimes the zoom tool bar is partly hidden when the window is too small to show the entire zoom tool bar:
If this happens, you can grab the zoom bar by its gripper:
and then drag it below the main tool bar:
