After initial stitching I perform an automatic fine-tune using the Overlap Region window and then manually alter a number of red 'edit' boxes, moving through the image using the Next--> button.
The image (covered by the red boxes) lines up suitably until I click CLOSE on the window or click the green Approve tick and it all reverts back to the blurred/ misaligned original image!
I have tried this with and without Automatic fine-tuning and the same happens - I must be missing something obvious - I'm going mad!
I have scoured the FAQ section but it doesn't break down to a step-by-step walk-through (idiot guide) that I seem to need!?
PLEASE HELP!! An e-mail would be gratefully received - but I'll keep an eye out on the site.

I don't know what's causing this problem, but I'd like to find out.
I'd really like to try to reproduce your problem here on my own computer so that I can see exactly what you are talking about. I'd like you to send us a copy of your stitching project, immediately after pressing the "Close" button on the fine tuning.
It would be best to do this through our customer support system.
Could you please email your question to support@panoramafactory.com so that we can open a dialog through email?
Here are the specific instructions on what I'd like you to send:
1. Stitch your images the way you normally do (using the Wizard or the Classic interface).
2. Manually fine tune the images and press the "Close" button.
3. When you see that the ghosting has come back, save your project file using the "Save Project As" command from the File menu. Let's suppose you save the project file as "myproject". This will save a file called "myproject.pfp" and also many image files with names like "myproject_imported_1.jpg", "myproject_stitched_1.bmp", "myproject_cropped_1.bmp", etc.
4. Please send the file "myproject.pfp" and all of the "myproject_imported_..." files as email attachments to support@panoramafactory.com. You don't need to send the stitched, cropped, etc. image files or any of the thumbnail images -- only the imported image files.
NOTE: If the mail attachments will be larger than 1 megabyte in total, you should send them to us via FTP instead. Please contact support@panoramafactory.com for instructions on how to reach our FTP server.
I look forward to receiving the project file and imported images so that we can investigate this problem further. |

I apologize for the delay in answering this question through the forum. Gary and I continued the dialog through customer support (support@panoramafactory).
After reading the web page A fine tuning challenge, Gary determined that his problem was a variation of the problem described in that page. The page explains how editing fine tuning tiles can sometimes have unexpected effects.
It is unfortunate that incorrect tiles can have an influence on distant areas in the image. We are working on improvements to the fine tuning to make it less sensitive to this type of problem. We hope to include these improvements in a future release, probably V4.0. Until then, you must use the techniques described in the web page A fine tuning challenge when this type of problem arises. |
