I have carefully followed your guidelines for saving/editing/importing files. When I get to step 2 "Before leaving The Panorama Factory, right-click the cropped image and select the Properties command. Write down the HFOV value and note whether Spherical or Cylindrical is selected" these fields in the Panoramic Image section of the window are blank.
I have tried entering 360 for HFOV value but when I re-import the image, the ends do not line up at the pano seam. It considers the new image to be 1 file so I cannot manually align the image.
Is there a reason why the HFOV value is not being calculated after saving the file as a TIF before exporting it for editing? Is there a recommended workaround? |

Have you cropped the image twice? That is, did you crop the already cropped image? The cropped image will show panoramic properties only if it is a direct crop of the stitched image. This issue is discussed in these two FAQ entries: Problem with QTVR + crop and Cant crop a qvtr?. Although these FAQs specifically mention QTVR, the same issues apply to all VR export formats.
If you are examining the properties of the direct crop of the stitched image, I cannot think of a reason that the panoramic properties are not being displayed. In this case, I'd like you to contact support@panoramafactory.com and send your PFP file so we can investigate further.
You write that entering 360 does not work--the ends do not line up properly. Of course, entering 360 should work only if you are editing a full 360 image that has been cropped to exactly 360 degrees (the default crop does this for you). Have you exported a different image, e.g. the stitched image? When creating a 360 panorama, the stitched image is actually more than 360 degrees because the first image is repeated at both ends of the panorama to permit some freedom in choosing the warparound point (when cropping).
Can you explain what you mean by "after saving the file as a TIF before exporting it for editing"? I would think that saving as a TIF is the same as exporting for editing.

Thanks, John, for the quick response. The FAQs you sent were helpful and you were right--I was re-cropping the wrong image and not looking far enough back for the HFOV.
Although PF does a fantastic job cropping panos, sometimes it is necessary to crop them again. For example, I shot one pano from atop a stone wall. Although I had just enough room to use a tripod, I could not move with the camera. My levels on the tripod were as accurate as I could get them but I could not see through the viewfider to check my horizon. I had to crop a small amount of while space on the horizontal edges after I stitched the pano. Another time, I shot a pano on the fly and all I had with me was a monopod. Of course that pano needed major re-cropping.
Nevertheless, you provide an amazing tool and my panos came out great. I look forward to purchasing future versions as they become available.
PS. When I referred to exporting a TIF, I was referring to saving the TIF, recording the HFOV, saving the project, and then closing PF. Sorry for the confusion, I should have been more clear with my wording. |
