From Glossary of terms specific to The Panorama Factory:
stitch verb. to warp, align, fine tune and blend a series of alignable images into a complete panoramic image.
In V2.4 of The Panorama Factory, we translated the verb "stitch" to "heften" (staple, baste, tack, etc.). One reviewer has suggested that this is not the best translation. He recommended we use instead the word "zusammenfügen" (join, merge, coalesce, etc.).
I have two reservations about this change.
1. My current customer base is familiar with the term "heften". Changing it in V3 would be disorienting to current customers. unlike Microsoft  I reluctant to make changes to commands once customers have become familiar with them.
2. I performed a very unscientific experiment. I searched with google for "heften+panorama" and for "zusammenfügen+panorama". The number of pages was about the same, 1170 versus 1190. This suggests that both terms are commonly used to refer to panoramic stitching.
The word "stitch" is probably not the best one to use in english, but it is commonly used and understood. For german, I am not able to judge what is best nor what is most commonly used.
I am in favor of continuing to use "heften". However, if many of the reviewers agree that the term should be changed, I will reconsider.

Background: For the initial German version (v2), we tended to use shorter words where we had a choice to facilitate fitting the words / strings into dialog boxes. The v3 dialogs have been enlarged considerably to reduce the need to do this, so this need no longer constrain us.
Laziness is another reason to maintain the status quo if alternatives are equivalent... 
Seriously, "heften" is my preference because it also suggests the physical activity of joining pieces of paper ("heften" = amongst others "attach" / "staple") whereas "zusammenfügen" = amongst others "join", a more general term. But either would work... I do not feel strongly about this.
