Most digital cameras have a height/width ratio that differs from that of 35mm film. The default Film Size settings of 24mm x 36mm, with a ratio of 2/3 for 35mm images, may increase the difficulty of aligning images from digital cameras, which usually have a ratio of 3/4.
To decrease the amount of work required to obtain proper alignment for images from digital cameras, try changing the "24" to "27" (27 / 36 = .75, or 3/4).
To calculate the precise ratio for images from your camera, divide the resolution of the height by the width (say, 960 divided by 1280). Take the result (in this case, .75) and multiply it by 36 (the default Film Size in mm). Replace the default of "24" with the result (in this case, "27"). |

I tried this tip (in Version 2.4), but in order to set a film size other than 35x24 in Tools/Camera Properties, the Camera Type must be set to "Other Film Size". If "Digital Camera" is selected, the film size setting are not active and 35x24 cannot be changed. However, if "Other Film Size" is selected so the film size can be changed as you suggest, then the settings for Digital Camera Make and Model are not active. I am not sure how the program uses that information, but if telling the program what camera is being used is something the program needs, then this tip cannot be implemented. If the width to height ratio for digital cameras should be 35x27, why doesn't the setting automatically change to this when "Digital Camera" is selected in Camera type, or at least allow the user make this change and store it in a profile while still being able to tell the program the camera that is being used? |

You are absolutely right that this tip cannot be followed if you select "Digital Camera." This tip applies more to the free V1.6 which does not have a digital camera library.
If you choose your digital camera from the library, you do not need to tell The Panorama Factory the film size -- it loads the information it needs from the camera library.
