I agree. If there was a Linux version, I'd register on the spot. The lack of a good panorama program for Linux has kept some of my panoramic scenes languishing for two years now. I would even help do the conversion, if necessary. |

My only reason to have Windows installed on my computer is panorama pictures, and it anoys me quite a lot since, I prefer to do the rest of photo processing in Linux.
So please notify my, if this Panorama Factory is realeased in a Linux version. |

I'm sorry, but I don't have any plans for a Linux version. My time and resources are limited.
It may surprise you to learn that the income from this shareware product is not enough to support even one full-time person (i.e. myself). Most of my income (and professional time) comes from software contracting work. Unfortunately, this means that I cannot undertake a major new development effort like a port to Linux, so I've had to concentrate on the PC version. |

I just downloaded V3.1 and tried it with Wine.
Installation worked fine.
If I start the app, I can see the Slashscreen an behind the splash pops an error up:
"Can't start the application beacause files cannot be created in the system temp folder C:\Temp
Please check to be sure this folder exists and has write permission"
Wine throws some messages too:
"fixme:msvcrt:MSVCRT__sopen : pmode 0x6c440088 ignored
fixme:msvcrt:MSVCRT__sopen : pmode 0x408e1f74 ignored
fixme:resource:FormateMessageA line wrapping (80) no supported"
After clicking ok, the app ist gone

I just gave Wine version 20030813 a shot - same problem.
It would be great if it would work with wine. Just some permformance issues, but thats not a real problem ;-) |

I am using v3.1 under Wine 20030813, on Slackware 9, and also ran into the temp problem issue. I resolved it when I moved the temp area from e:\ to c:\temp. Check the config file for all references to temp. Also, make sure the directory exists!! It's working ok, and seems plenty fast. My six image stitch looks good, but for some reason will not read the originals as PNG's. Converting to JPG worked fine. WineHQ has panoramafactory listed in their apps database, for version 2.4. |

a question: I have the following problem:
A digital camera is rotating (horizontally) 360 degrees and is taking about 20 images (640x480 pixel).
These should be turned in a panoramic JPEG image.
I need something that is scriptable. I failed to setup panotools to produce acceptable results (I get bad color stepping, resulting image is skewed vertically etc).
Some folks here reported success using Panorama Factory under Wine. This is nice.
My question is: can I use a version of Panorama Factory that is scriptable that takes the 20 images and generates the panoramic JPEG image in output ?
Any Hints ?

I tried it with WineEX 3.2, and after resolving the dreaded /tmp issues, the program crashes with an exception when reading the addrss 0xdeadbeef (oh well).
If the author of the program is reading this, I would like to offer resources to port this programm to linux.

For reasons I do not understand, some people have been able to use The Panorama Factory with Wine on the first try and others seem to have difficulty.

I just upgraded to Slackware 10, wine version 20040615 and Panorama Factory 3.3.
It all works exceptionally well. I used the same wine config file as the one I created under Slackware 9.0 and Wine 20030813. A 10 image stitch ran just fine, and turned out very well. |

I'd also appreciate a linux port very much!
It does not seem to work using wine right now - PFactory cant write to the temp directory and changing the temp entry in wine config doesnt change anything.

I have earlier used the old 1.6 version on windows, and yes, it wasn't stable. Then i switched to Linux and tried the 1.6 under wine, not a single chrash, it just worked :-)
But why fiddle around with unfree greedy SW that isn't even supposed to work in your favourite OS? Heck, the author doesn't even accept free help to port and develop it. There are alternatives that is in active development for Linux and a lot of different platforms, even platform independent. There are Autopano-sift or the Hugin GUI for Panorama Tools just to mention a few. That is as least apps that is worth to spend some time on, since your contribution is welcomed and actually can lead to improvements, if not for others, at least to your self. |
