Even after searching panoramafactory and livepicture.com, I cannot find any plug ins for the IVR display. I am viewing Internet Explorer 5.5 and there is just a little red/yellow/blue cube in the upper left hand corner....no IVR component is there to see this. ...please help |

In mid 1999 MGI Software Inc. acquired Live Picture Inc. Sometime in the second quarter of 2000, the Live Picture website was redirected to the MGI Software website at www.mgisoft.com.
It is not clear whether the Live Picture viewer is available through the MGI website. The MGI Zoom viewer plug-in may be a suitable replacement for the Live Picture viewer plug-in. The MGI website also contains references to a "lightweight" (Java) panorama viewer, but it is not clear how to obtain this viewer.
You could also use one of these alternatives:
** The free PTViewer from Helmut Dersch at www.fh-furtwangen.de/~dersch/. PTViewer is available as a Java applet and as a stand-alone application. PTViewer is not yet integrated into the previewing capability of The Panorama Factory new project Wizard, but this support may be added in a future version.
** The free QuickTime player from Apple Computer Inc. at www.apple.com. The QuickTime player works as a plug-in and as a stand-alone application.
Although neither PTViewer nor the QuickTime player displays LivePicture IVR panoramas they can be used to create similar displays.
The Panorama Factory VR gallery uses PTViewer to display VR panoramas. Feel free to visit the gallery and examine its html files for examples of using PTViewer. |

QTVR display
If you are trying to display a QTVR panorama, you need the QuickTime player. This is available from Apple Computer Inc. at www.apple.com.
IVR display
If you are trying to display an IVR panorama, you need the MGI Zoom viewer.
The MGI viewer is harder to find than it used to be. The company that produced the IVR viewer, MGI Software, was purchased by Roxio (www.roxio.com) early in 2002. It seems that Roxio is not interested in promoting the viewer as a free download. However, it still seems to be available as a free download, but you have to dig a little to find it. Sorry about that, but I really have no control over the situation.
I found the plug-in viewer download by using www.google.com, entering this search string:
"mgi zoom viewer plugin"
The first page listed is:
http://www.mgisoft.com/support/downloads/plugin.html which seems to allow you to download the java plugin.
However, this download page no longer seems to be accessable by following links from Roxio's home page (www.roxio.com), so I'm not certain they intend it to be freely downloadable anymore. You'll have to follow your conscience on that one.
Have you considered trying one of the other freeware or shareware viewers? For a good tutorial see Putting Panoramas and Object movies in a web page at the website "The Guide to Panoramas and Panoramic Photography" (www.panoguide.com). This website also has a table providing a Comparison of VR viewers.
I personally like the free PTViewer, but there are lots of others. PTViewer is available from www.fh-furtwangen.de/~dersch (if this site is down, check the mirror at home.no.net/dmaurer/~dersch/Index.htm). |
