Hi all,
I have a couple of quick questions.

When I first import my images, I'd like to see my files as thumbnails rather than the default list view. If I change to thumbnails in view menu it defaults back to list view next time I use it. I'd like it to be permanently on thumbnails.

and-

How can I prevent Panorama Factory automatically cropping into my final stitched image?

Thanks in advance! :-)

(just to clarify my question regarding cropping) I'd like to be able to omit the automatic cropping stage entirely. Is this possible? If it isn't, could it be considered as an additional option within future versions?

Chris, I tried what you are doing in the current version and am having the same problem. In the previous version it saved the uncropped image as a BMP file. This would be huge and from there you could get what you wanted. I noticed that when I try it now the BMP file does not exist in the project, but a new very large file (stitched_thumbnail_1.pfi) does exist. I tried renaming that but it does not recognize it.

Hopefully John will be along soon and can give us the answer.

David

Hi David,

Ah I hadn't realised the pre-cropped image was saved in older versions, ideally I'd like to be able to omit the automatic cropping stage entirely or at least be given the option to crop or not crop. Might John consider adding this as a feature in a future PF version?

Hi Chris and David,

Apologies for the delay.

Cropping question

The uncropped image is easily available from inside The Panorama Factory:

If you are using the Wizard, first exit from the Wizard with the "Done" or "Cancel" Wizard button. After exiting the Wizard, the screen will be divided into two panes. The upper pane shows thumbnails for the uncropped stitched image, uncropped sharpened image (if you selected the sharpening option) and the cropped image. Double-click the thumbnail you want and then save it using the Save Image As command (File menu).

To entirely omit the cropping step, you have to use the Classic (non-Wizard) approach to stitching. But the downside to using the Wizard is small. Sure, the software wastes a few extra seconds making a cropped image that you don't need. But you have not lost the uncropped image--it's still there in the stitching project.

BTW, I don't recommend fiddling with the BMP, TIFF and PFI images stored inside the stitching project file. Note to David: The x64 Edition of The Panorama Factory uses PFI (Panorama Factory Image) because BMP and TIFF cannot represent images larger than 2 GB.

Thumbnails in Import dialog box

The Open file dialog box is implemented by Windows or Mac OS X, not by The Panorama Factory. As far as I have been able to determine, application software cannot control the display format (list, thumbnail, details, etc) in this dialog box, sorry.

I understand that there is some obscure way to set the default display format through Windows Explorer, but it changes the default for all applications. And frankly, I have never been able to do it reliably.

I hope this helps!
