Hi John, thanks for the new version! I'm just exploring the new features, particularly color management, and like them a lot. I have not been able to solve one issue however: My old projects open fine in the new version, but when I try to 'save as' qtvr, the process takes maybe 5 times what does with version 4, lots of (excessive?) HD activity, and when it finally finishes the resulting QTVR is defective. On multiple tries, one part or another of the pan will be black (missing) or the colors off. The file size is also way too low compared to what I get with version 4. I've tried to generate the QTVR file with color management first turned on, then turned off. The latter did not help. For reference, the process seems to bog down when the 'Saving Self Contained Movie' message box appears. Hope there is a solution! Vista Home Premium as before. Larry |

Hi Larry, Sorry about the new problem. What version of QuickTime do you have installed on your computer? PF uses the QuickTime DLLs to create MOV files, so the version is relevent. Also, would you mind uninstalling QuickTime and then reinstalling a fresh copy? I don't understand it, but a couple of customers with strange QuickTime problems (each different) have reported that the problems just disappeared after uninstalling/reinstalling QuickTime.

John, I had been using QT version 7.2. Yesterday I verified that I could still properly save as qtvr using my PF 4.5 version. I upgraded to the latest QT version (7.3.0.70) but again got the behavior I described. I've now unintalled QT, deleted the QT folder in Program Files, and reinstalled QT 7.3.0.70. I still get the same behavior. The PF message box 'Writing xxxx.mov' stalls for an unusual period of time with the indicator about half way across, then finally the 'saving self contained movie' msg box appears, but stalls with the indicator a quarter the way across. After a number of minutes, the .mov file is saved, but it's defective; it's size is roughly 1/10th what I get with the functional result from PF 4.5. Hope this helps. Glad I saved 4.5 for now; most of the stuff I'm doing now requires qtvr. This should not have anything to do with it, but just to mention it, my default .mov viewer is now DevalVR. I can however play .mov files with QT if I want. Using jpeg compression, quality is poor however by comparison with DevalVR. Larry |

Hi Larry, Sorry that didn't correct the problem. Can you send a copy of the bad MOV file to my attention at support@panoramafactory.com so that I can try to analyze it? John

Hi Larry. I have a quick question. Are you working from 16-bit-per-color images? I think I may have found something that affects 16-bit images but not 8-bit images. To check for sure, look at the Project properties dialog box (File menu) and see whether "Use 45-bit pixels" is selected. John

John, yes, I'm using the '45 bit pixels' setting (so I can adjust the color - doing that has made the pans look *so* much better). I'll send you a copy of a bad .mov file shortly. By the way, the only way I can access the color tool is to enable 45 bit pixels. When I do that, the color tool is also automatically checked. If I just check the color tool only in the project properties dialog, the color tool remains grayed out when working on the stitched images. Larry (Message edited by larry_r on November 07, 2007) |

John, as a trial, I opened a new project I had done using V5, unchecked the 45 bit pixel checkbox in project properties, let the program regenerate the image and then 'saved as' qtvr. Compared to V4.5 the process took a very long time, perhaps twice or 3 times as long, but it did produce a proper qtvr without any defects that I could see on first glance. Hope this helps, |

Yes, thanks Larry. I am working on a patch that corrects the problem with 16-bit images. I should have it ready within the next couple days. As far as the speed issue, I'll look into that, but I'd certainly like to get it working correctly first! And finally, when you enable the color tool without choosing 45 bit pixels, the color tool is available only for the imported images. The changes made to the imported images flow through to all computed images. That's why it's grayed out when working on the stitched images. Unfortunately, this feature doesn't work very well. I've maintained it for backward compatibility (because I hate it when software companies remove things I have become accustomed to). But I don't really recommend it as a particularly useful feature. |
