For single row cylindrical pans 'saved as' QTVR, it appears that the height cannot be more than 2046 pixels. Is there a way around this limit, or could it be increased in future versions of PF? I'm thinking about getting a newer camera (12 MP) and I dislike the idea of having to discard pixels and thus resolution. Larry |

This is a limitation of QuickTime, not PF, and only when using QuickTime's Sorenson image compression. The limit, actually 2047, was impirically determined by testing panoramas with different heights. Panoramas in Sorenson compression with a height greater than 2047 are not displayed properly by some versions of the QuickTime Viewer. The Panorama Factory enforces the limit to avoid unpleasant results in the QuickTime viewer, but should enforce it only when you select Sorenson compression. So the solution is simple. Just select a different QuickTime compression by clicking the "QuickTime settings" button on the Save image as dialog box. I recommend JPEG compression. If you still have difficulties after trying JPEG compression, let me know. |

Thanks so much John, The problem then is already solved for me, I just did not know it. I'm using JPEG compression now anyway because it's supported by the DevalVR viewer while Sorenson compression is not. DevalVR is fantastic by the way. To my eye it makes the Windows version of QuickTime look antiquated. (However from feedback on my pans, it appears that QT on the Mac works better than it does on Windows.) DevalVR has so many cool features, especially when used in the full screen mode that I finally decided to put my VR pans of the Washington Cascades on the web, the unlabled ones at least. Here's the link should anyone like to take a look: http://web3.foxinternet.net/lrobinson/VRpans/index.htm Maybe I should add a PF logo at the bottom. Larry |
