I unchecked it in Wizard Step 4 and unchecked it in Project Properties yet every time I generate a QTVR it gets sharpened. I looked at my Project Properties and it is back to being checked. How do I uncheck it permanently?

There are several parts to the answer. The first three are explanations of how to control The Panorama Factory and the fourth is a bug (thanks for reporting it). I think you're running into the bug, but I'm including the other parts of the answer just to be sure.

Fortunately, the bug has a workaround that I'll describe. I've also added the bug to the Trouble reports web page and I will fix it in the next release (V4.5) which I hope to complete soon. V4.5 will be a free update for all customers who have purchased V4.x.

Part 1 -- Project properties

The controls on the Project properties dialog box affect how projects are saved, not what steps are performed in the projects. If your project already includes a sharpened image, deselecting the "Sharpened" checkbox means that sharpened image file will not be stored in the project. Instead, instructions for recreating the sharpened image are stored in the project. The image will be recomputed when you reopen the project later. This is why turning off this option did not affect your result.

Part 2 -- Removing the sharpened image from an existing project

If you have already saved a project and it includes a sharpened image, you can remove that image by selecting its thumbnail from the upper list of thumbnails and selecting the Delete selected command from the Edit menu. Then export the unsharpened image (usually a cropped image) instead.

Part 3 -- Turning off sharpening in the Wizard

You wrote that you turned of sharpening on Wizard step 4 - Control image quality. This setting should be remembered the next time you create a new stitching project with the Wizard. I think this is probably working for you and the undesired sharpening is the result of the bug I will describe next.

Part 4 -- A bug in image export and its workaround

Depending upon the options you select on the Save image as dialog box, The Panorama Factory sometimes has to resize your image as part of the export process. When this automatic resizing happens, The Panorama Factory sharpens the image even if you have turned off sharpening in the Wizard or with menu commands. This is a bug.

Images may be resized during image export if you select Automatically resize or if select an export format that has size constraints. For example, QTVR images are almost always resized during export because QTVR images must be a multiple of 96 pixels in width.

Workaround

To avoid sharpening during image export, do all required resizing before exporting the image and do not select Automatically resize on the Save image as dialog box. If you are exporting to QTVR format, be sure to resize the image to a multiple of 96 pixels in width before exporting. You can resize to a multiple of 96 pixels by entering a value for Image width on the Create your panorama Wizard step or by using the Resize command (New image menu).

Again, this bug will be fixed in the next release (V4.5) which will be a free update for all customers who have purchased V4.x.

I hope this helps!

Thanx-I will give it a shot. My other workaround was to not sharpen my images prior. I am just now experimenting with PF; I have been using VR Worx on Macs. I resize my images including sharpening before I put it together in VRW. My complaint is that I like to control the amount of sharpening and I don't know how much sharpening is applied in PF.
I join the ranks who would like a Mac version. Even tho' VRW is good (and more expensive by far) I'm finding PF is better!

The sharpening I described in Part 4 cannot be controlled. But then it shouldn't be there anyway.

Fortunately, the sharpening you do with the Wizard or with the Sharpen command (New image menu) performs unsharp masking with standard controllable parameters (radius, threshold, amount). PF's unsharp masking was modelled after Photoshop. PF's parameters should work almost exactly as they do in PS for the same numbers.

If you've stitched with the Wizard, you exit the Wizard, right-click the "stitched" thumbnail and select "Show source" to view and adjust the sharpening parameters. PF has a preview rectangle that you can draw on the image itself. This lets you interactively see the effect of the sharpening parameters before you approve them.

The cool thing about PF is that after you've stitched the image, you can adjust almost all of the stitching, cropping, sharpening, etc. settings without invalidating any of the other steps. If you change an image in the middle, PF propogates the changes downstream. This was a basic design goal, intended to avoid the need to start over from the beginning every time you notice something you want to change.

As for a Mac version ... stay tuned! :-) Or contact me by email at support @ panoramafactory.com.

OK, thanx for that info. Now, how do I make QTVR's that are made from individual panos and then are connected with the hotspots? All I see is that it has be constructed in a web site. I want to build a "Scene" as in VR Worx but when I go to the help site I find no description for it other than going to the Wizard which just opens a new project. Sorry to be so ignorant. Should I start a new post about this?
