What is the correct procedure for stitching a 180 or 360 degree pano from fisheye photos ? Will Panoramafactory accomplish this ? I read 2, 3, 8 shots are required...which is correct ? |

The number of shots required is determined by the effective angle covered by each of the images the the plane of the panorama. For example, I use my Olympus C730 at it's widest setting thru a 0.5x converter on a Kaidan panorama head (so the camera is in "portrait" orientation) - with that rig, each picture subtends about 50-60 degrees so I take 12 exposures for 360 degree coverage. This allows adequate overlap between pictures for highly effective stitching and minimal image loss due to curvature.
I don't know if your fisheye is the best lens for stitching - I have to "correct out" the barrel distortion of my lens combo in order to get good stitching. I suspect you'd be better off with a "normal" wide-angle (ie rectilinear) lens and more shots.
There really isn't a "correct" answer, too few pix and the project won't stitch at all, more pix and the project will stitch but may not be reliable and/or you may lose a significant amount of the images vertically, more images still will result in more reliable stitching and/or less loss to curvature, the downside being more pix and longer time stittching.
Bottom line IMO, do some experiments to see what works for you and your gear. |
