Why do you not support Apple Mac. I would have bought your product, but only use Mac OS |

I'm sorry, but I don't have any plans for a Macintosh version. My time and resources are limited. It may surprise you to learn that the income from this shareware product is not enough to support even one full-time person (i.e. myself). Most of my income (and professional time) comes from software contracting work. Unfortunately, this means that I cannot undertake a major new development effort like a port to Macintosh, so I've had to concentrate on the PC version. Perhaps you might try using a PC emulator like Virtual PC to run the Windows version? It seems to me that I have heard of some people using this method to run The Panorama Factory on Mac. |

I agree, a Mac OSX version would definately be an improvement. If only because most Mac users are in the graphic design field/creative business and therefore you have a lot of users who are going to use this program! |

Hi all, an Mac OS X version would definately be bought at $50 or even $100 if it did it all from our side :-) maybe some OS X programmer wants to team up with the PanoramaFactory guys if enough cash is brought in "virtually up front"? come on Mac users! :-) |

John, I don't know if you are familiar with the numbers, but most of the time Mac users buy their software more than PC users. For example, although Macs are a small market, it responds for almost half of the sales of Photoshop, for example. That's why Adobe says they'll never drop the Mac version... Maybe you'd get more revenue if you develop a Mac version of your software. Plus it's also know that the majority of photographers uses Macs... |

I was a PC user until last week, and have been using Panorama Factory for more than a year. I will buy again for OSX. I know developers out there who would port it to the Mac in exchange for sharing the benefits! |

Yes, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE MAC version. I've just bought a Powerbook with OSX, and the BBC use the ptveiwer for their 360's. I'm using Quicktime VTR's and this restricts to people that have QT installed. Some customers' don't like installing plugins and the ptviewer seems more accesable. |

For running The Panorama Factory on a Mac, we recommend a Microsoft product called "Virtual PC for Mac". Virtual PC enables you to run Windows applications on your Mac. We have received feedback from customers who have told us that The Panorama Factory works well under Virtual PC. For more information about Virtual PC, please refer to: http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/virtualpc/virtualpc.aspx?pid=virtualpc

Or you could just get a PC which would be faster and, these days, not that expensive! I switched to a Mac mini recently and use that 90% of the time. I bought a cheap KVM switch to share the keyboard/monitor/mouse and can switch between the two computers and share directories (OSX makes this very easy). Set Panorama Factory going, switch to the Mac to catch up with email, then pop back a few minutes later and copy the result across. Fantastic! |

I would also like to see Panorama Factory available for Mac OS X. It's simply the best panorama program I've seen, and for a time was the only reason I had a PC lying around. John - If you ever find yourself with spare time, I would encourage you to look into creating a Mac version. Not only to appease all of us who're after it, but also because being able to program things for macs would probably look good on your CV, and mebbe be useful in your professional life. |

I am using a G4 power book with virtual PC and it crawls, about 45 min. a stitch. My buddy is using it on a ok PC and it takes less than 15 min. a stitch. Same size image is used on both. Any hints to help speed it up? I'll pay A $100 for a mac version... |

It is a great program, the greatest. I would pay at least 800 bucks for it if it where runing under OSX. It is extremely useful but I have to buy a lousy PC to run it with full power. It is a pity really. |

At the risk of repeating this, your software is the only reason that I have to use a pc, I would definitely buy it for upwards of $200 without a doubt if it were compiled for OSX. I am employed as a photographer for perhaps the largest online travel booking company so I've stitched hundreds of images with your software but am bound to my unfriendly PC, I actually don't take my PC on the shoots as I don't trust it, I take my powerbook and then stitch when I return weeks later! I know a lot of photographers and graphics professionals are mac based and I would imagine that it would be in your interest to support that platform, you would also plug a glaring hole in the mac software market since Apples own stitcher is not being supported in OSX and other mac products (and believe me, I've looked at them all!) do not have the streamlined workflow of your product. |

Another bit of encouragement to develop a Mac version. I have a small photography business and would LOVE to use your product. I have a PC-using friend who I envy only in his ability to use your cool program. And, yes, I would be happy to pay well for it. If you find you have any interest in keeping us happy, perhaps you could reach out and see if Alexandre (see previous post) or anyone else can help you develop it... Virtual Windows is very slow, and a pain in the a**. |

I would like a Mac version, though I can understand that you might not have the time, resources, etc to produce one. What I don't understand is why you don't bother mentioning what systems you support in your press releases, your front page or even your downloads page. Adding the words "Windows Only" to any or all of the above would not only cut down on the number of Mac users bugging you about a version for OSX, it would also go a long way toward making them feel less slighted after finding their way here and wading through all the rest of your site before they get the bad news. |

Hi Robin, Unfortunately, the application is based on MFC and would be difficult to port to Mac, although I would love to if I had the time. This is a very small company. I am the only software developer and, as much as I would like to, I can't do everything! I will add "Windows" to the download page as you suggested. However, I want to point out that the front page already states "The Panorama Factory from Smoky City Design, LLC is a panoramic stitching program for Windows 95 / 98 / ME / NT / 2000 / XP" just below the splashy example pictures. And the press releases all contain a "System requirements" section that states "Windows 95, 98, ME, NT 4.0, 2000 or XP". True, this is the last section of each press release...I can't put everything at the top! |

I really do hope you find the time or partnership to be able to make this happen. As one of the above posters has suggested, though the Apple market is much smaller we are used to actually paying for software and tend to use our computers for this type of task more. We are also generally pretty picky people, so take it as a compliment that this many users are interested in your product. We'd rather give you $200 ($100for xp and $100 for VPC) for a native version of your software, than MS to run their os on our system. Please consider it strongly. Check out Apples development tools if you have a momnet. It might be really good for your 64bit development as well. Notice how their new machines have 16GB ram capacity and 4 processor cores. Maybe ther's an angel out ther willing to give you a new G5 for the effort. You just gotta ask. X Code Teela Photography

OK, I see the note on the front page. The problem is, I came here via a link from DPreview.com which pointed at the What's New page. Not your fault, obviously. Also, if you are including system requirements in your press releases, some people aren't passing that along. The news item at DPreview.com (http://www.dpreview.com/news/0510/05101802panorama_factoryv4.asp) does not include any mention of supported platforms. Once again, if they're truncating your messages, it's not your fault. It is still annoying, though. |

Another vote to bring PF to the Mac! I'm sure that the cost will be recouped in sales as lots of us macusers work with photos and graphics. I am already a word-of-mouth salesman for this great product and would be happy to help spread the word to the Apple faithful if it happens. We would PAY you to develop this (hire someone if you don't have time yourself) Listen to the enthusiasm of the posters here... Thanks. |

I am Part of a franchise that does real estate photography. Programs like Panorama factory are a must and lets face it from what I have seen Panorama Factory is the best out there. Please, please consider a Mac version. If people are willing to pay to run it using virtual Pc and I know quite a few, they would easily pay $150 -$200 and still save a few bucks. It would also be faster and not so memory intensive without virtual PC. Let us know how to twist your arm and we will happily oblige. Just run an add for some new young software engineer looking to get a start to help write it. I am sure the rewards will be worth it. Robert |

I used this program for the lonest time, until March 1st of 2005 when I bought a Mac. Between March and May I never even turned my PC on. I let it go for next to nothing because it was too klunky. I have said dozens of times that the only reason why I am considering a small PC like a Shuttle PC is so that I can run this program. I refuse to use Virtual PC. My panos are nearly 200 mb printing at about 12" x44" I just can't see my PowerBook taking that on. When I upgrade to a PowerMac I hope that Intel somehow comes up with a nice little Mac Mini knock off that I'll buy and get this program. I understand that you used MFC and maybe that is why this is the bests pano program out there. Honestly I've tried about 15 and none of them are good...Adobe's coming in near last. I hope you figure out a way, but until then, know that you rock...just not on my mac.

21 months went by since the last posting in Jan 2006. Has anything happened here for the Mac users? I am really fed up of having to swith from my Mac to my old PC to finish the job with Panorama Factory. We need this program on Mac. How much would it cost to fund the project? |

I am getting ready to get my first Mac, and was pleasantly surprised to see that Panorama Factory now supports that. One of my decisions will be the choice between 2G and 4G of system RAM. Does anybody know if the SW will take advantage of the full 4G if I go that way? I would also be interested in speed comparisons between using Boot Camp on the Mac and running native in OSX. I will be doing a lot more panoramas once I get the speed up! |

Hello John, It certainly took me a while to get back into this, I have been traveling a lot and have pictures now to stich. I have just downloaded the trial version to make some tests on my Mac before actualing buying. The quality is great and the automated process is just like in windows....you sit and watch and let yourself amaze by the program results. But there is always a BUT I have a problem with my first test. I imported nine (9) pictures and launched the wizard and I noticed that during the preparation the system keeps telling me its preapring 1 and 2 of 10 then 2 and 3 of 10 and so on. The problem is I only imported 9 pictures not 10 and the end result is that it tAKES THE FIRST PICTURE AND STITCHES IT AT THE END. So the beginning of the panoram does not have the first picture and the last one is the firt which is blended with the 9 th which obviously does not match. I did this several times and always got the same result. I then thought that perhaps the program needs to work in pairs of pictures so I removed the first pictures to assemble only 8 pics and the same thing happened. It took picture number one and put it a the end and during the assembly it kept saying 1 and 2 of 9 and so on. I have no idea how to work around this, can you help? Thanks

Hi Jose, Just select "Partial panorama" instead of "360 degree panorama". Selecting "360 degree panorama" causes the software to link the ends of the panorama into a ring by duplicating the first picture at the end. This is the right thing to do for a full 360 panorama, but it messes up a partial panorama. The Panorama Factory isn't quite smart enough to figure this out on its own. :-) |
