Hi John -- Was wondering when the next version was slated and if you will add the Nikon D2X. I know the pace of new cameras is dizzying, so I wonder if it is possible to create a database in support to add cameras to PF such that one just inputs the numbers by hand? Probably easier for you that way. Just a thought. |

I'm working steadily on next version, but there isn't a definite release date yet! The Nikon D2X was released more recently than The Panorama Factory V3.3, so it is not in the camera library. We will certainly add it in the next release. Fortunately, The Panorama Factory provides features for describing cameras that are not in the camera library. The D2X is a digital SLR, so you should follow these instructions (see also the help page Wizard step 2 – Describe your camera.
- Select Other digital camera -- using sensor dimensions for the camera type.
- Enter 23.7 and 15.7 for the Film dimensions. These numbers are taken from the D2X Tech Specs at Nikon's web site.
With these settings, The Panorama Factory will function exactly as if you had been able to select the D2X from the camera list. I'll consider your suggestion about allowing web site visitors the ability to edit the camera database. If it can be edited by anyone, do you think some sort of verification would be needed? It's also pretty easy for you to add a camera to the camera list on your own computer. The camera list is stored as a text file using "tab separated values" format. The file is cameras.txt in the folder on your computer that contains The Panorama Factory application. This is normally: C:\Program Files\Smoky City Design\The Panorama Factory You can edit the file with Excel or with any text editor that preserves TAB characters. I'd have to publish a description of the fields in the file. What do you think?
