My printed panos are fine (PF V 3.3, purchased a week ago). I tried creating QTVRs from the same set of images. Throughout the process everything looks OK, but when viewing the *.mov file, it has vertical bars of almost-complementary colours over all the image. Suspecting system stress because of large file sizes, I created smaller QTVRs, but that makes them worse.
I'm also confused re requirement to have QT Authoring installed. About two years ago I used the trial version of PF, and IIRC downloaded an Apple QT tool which cost about $40, and did some panos and QTVRs which were all OK. I don't think Apple's QT Authoring stuff is still installed ( QT Authoring is now apparently a $400 product, way out of my budget). I do have QT Player with latest updates, and QT Pro.
Q Does PF 3.3 require Apple's $400 Authoring package for QTVRs? If so, I must be using some remnant of my trials from two years ago.

You have posed two questions, and I'll take them one at a time.
Vertical bars in MOV files
I have not heard of this problem before. I suggest you check your QuickTime installation. Perhaps you should uninstall and then reinstall QuickTime. The Panorama Factory uses the QuickTime DLLs to create MOV files, so a problem in your QuickTime installation might be causing this problem.
If uninstalling and reinstalling does not correct the problem, please send a customer support request to support@panoramafactory.com so we can have a dialog about the problem. We may need to request additional information to help solve your problem.
Requirement to install QT Authoring component
The Panorama Factory requires that you install several optional components that are included with the free QuickTime player. The complete requirements are detailed at Installing support for QuickTime on your computer.
The Panorama Factory requires that you select the QuickTime Authoring component when you install the free QuickTime player from Apple. The QuickTime Authoring component is included with the free QuickTime player from Apple. This is different from QuickTime VR Authoring Studio which is an Apple product that costs nearly $400. QuickTime VR Authoring Studio is not required by The Panorama Factory.
By the way, all versions of The Panorama Factory that support QTVR creation have required the free QuickTime Authoring component. This is not something new in V3.

I have now got a QTVR that is OK, but only after a struggle. I thought I might be having memory constraints (tho I have 512 MB), so decided to give it less work to do. I resized all the original images using another program, before giving them to PF. So rather than having 25 images of 2048 x 3072, it now has 25 images of 667 x 1000. So looks like it's a resource constraint. I'll explore other image reductions, VM settings and perhaps buy more RAM.
Incidentally, the vertical stripes appear to coincide with the overlap areas.
I now understand the Authoring Component thing. I uninstalled, downloaded latest and reinstalled QT, and taking the 'Custom' option, I can see that Authoring Component is included. |

I can't think of why a resource constraint should produce vertical stripes.
If you'd like to pursue this problem further, please send a customer support request to support@panoramafactory.com so that we can open an email dialog. I'd like to see the MOV file that shows the stripes. In many cases seeing the problem helps us figure out what is going on (a picture is worth a thousand words!).
