Many digital cameras store info about a picture in an EXIF header within the image - one of the parms is Focal Length, use this value when importing your images & you avoid having to 'guess' the setting your zoom lens was at.
There are numerous utilities that can extract info from the EXIF header - a free one is at: http://members.tripod.com/~tawba/exifread.htm
Perhaps add automatic reading of this parm (& others?) to Panorama Factory? |

I'm the author of the program you mentioned (EXIFRead). The problem with this approach is that digital camera focal lengths (which tend to be considerably shorter than "regular" 35mm cameras) and CCD ("Film Size" in Panorama Factory terminology) sizes vary from camera to camera. Thus, one digital camera might have a focal length of 7mm and another might use 10mm, but both cameras would be equivalent to a 50mm lens on a "regular" 35mm camera, because they have different size CCDs. In contrast, all 35mm cameras, by definition, have exactly the same size "film size".
Thus, one needs to know the details for each digital camera that the software is to support. Given the proliferation of digital cameras, this becomes a difficult and never-ending task! |

Yes... but Panorama Factory is already asking for
information about which digital camera is in use.
Why not have it keep asking for this info, but use
it to know how to convert the focal length of the
shot into a 35mm equivalent?
For that matter, is there an EXIF header which
identifies the camera? If so, Panorama Factory
wouldn't even need to ask; it would only need to
internally know the characteristics of the various
digital cameras. If it found a camera it didn't
know about, or if it didn't find the EXIF header,
it could then ask for the extra information. |

Sony for one describes all it's cybershot camera's as Make sony, Model Cybershot in the exif header. No info on what type there. But then again, usually the user knows the camera type. A simple table in a text file with regular updates on the website would do.

I bought a sony cd-300 digital camera . Using your sofware to generate a panorama picture i didn`t have any excellent image , probably because the list,in the sofware, do not have this camera but have a similar cd1000 .
May you have any suggestion?

I have added the Sony Mavica CD-300 camera to the camera library in V2.4. Visit http://www.panoramafactory.com/download.html to download and upgrade to the latest version.
I try to add recent digital cameras each time I release a new version, but there are so many new cameras it is very hard to keep up.
Remember that you can use The Panorama Factory even if your camera is not in the library. See My

i have found out by eighter checking other cameras lens-comparisona and compairing image-size with my zoom-camera(slr) that my 10.3mm is a 51mm lens. as default there is 25.5mm in the window. how can i have my own fixed focal-lenght set? |

I may have mis-read this or it was not answered here. If I use my Nikon D70 and an 18-70mm lens set at 18mm. Using Panorama Factory, since I already enter the camera used as the D70, do I enter the focal length in as 18mm or do I need to factor in the focal length multiplier of 1.5x and enter in 27mm?
