I have been using this program over the last 2 days and I am impressed with the results, the only problem is that the top and bottom edges of the resulting Quictime VR file are very jagged in places. Is there a way to crop the stitched image and then convert it to quicktime. I tried to do this but when i tried saving the file i got an error message saying that the image has changed and cannot be converted to quicktime.

If you created the panorama with the Wizard, it was already cropped once, right after stitching. You are probably receiving this error message because you cropped it a second time. The default crop created by the Wizard usually produces good results. Sometimes you get a jagged top and bottom if you moved the camera up and down between one picture and the next. In this situation you'll need to manuallly adjust the crop rectangle that the Wizard created. To adjust the crop rectangle, exit the Wizard and right-click the "cropped" thumbnail. Select the "Show source" command from the context menu. Move the mouse over the top or bottom edge of the crop rectangle and click-and-drag it up or down. When you are satisfied with the crop rectangle, click the Approve button. See Using the cropping rectangle for more information on how you can edit the cropping rectangle. For best results, be sure to keep the cropping rectangle level, i.e. parallel to the horizon in your panorama, and crop symmetrically above and below the horizon. Then because you have exited the Wizard, you'll need to use the Save current image as..., Page setup and Print current image... commands from the File menu to save and/or print your panorama.

I have adjusted it in the manner that you suggest, i exit the wizard and right click the 'cropped' thumbnail and click show source, I have now selected the area that i want the image to become (a big red line appears around the part of the image that I want to keep) then I 'approve' the selection and click file, save current image as. I have opened the file up and have found that the area I slected hasn't been converted into the QTVR file. Any ideas why this is the case? are there any other parameters I need to set somewhere? |

I forgot to mention something in my first reply. Before saving, you should double-click the "Final Image" thumbnail so that you are saving that image. The final image is the result of resizing (optional--Wizard Step 5) and slightly sharpening the cropped image. But either way (saving the cropped image or the final image), your QTVR should reflect the changes to the cropping area. When you saved the image, was the current image correctly displayed in The Panorama Factory's lower window pane? Click the "Fit" button at the top of the window to look at the entire image before saving it. Did you check the date and time of the QTVR file to be sure it was updated by the save? The only reason I can think that the updated image would not be reflected in the QTVR is if the file was somehow saved under a different file name or in a different folder.

no this is still not doing anything. It doesn't seem to apply the cropping at all! When I have selected the area with the red outline, i approve it, but it doesn't display the change i have made. |

www.nashie.net/pan-grab.gif that should give you an idea of what the source of the image looks like (and it remembers where i have set it to crop, but just doesn't update the image...) |

Thanks for sending the screen image. Now I think I know what is going wrong. I think you right-clicked the "Final Image" thumbnail instead of the "cropped" thumbnail when you selected the "Show Source" command. Right-clicking the "Final Image" shows the source image for the sharpening function and lets you change the amount of sharpening applied using the Filter Control dialog box (as shown in your screen capture). When the Filter Control dialog box is active, you see the preview rectangle for the sharpening function, not the cropping rectangle. See Classic step 6 - Enhance the resized image for more information about using the Filter control dialog box and the preview rectangle. To adjust the cropping rectangle, you must right-click the thumbnail for the "cropped" thumbnail and select "Show Source". This will open the "stitched" image which is the source for the cropping operation. The screen will show the stitched image with the cropping rectangle superimposed. Cropping rectangles are distinguished from other rectangles (e.g. preview rectangles) by a horizontal line across the middle. See Cropping rectangles to see a picture of a cropping rectangle. The part that may be slightly confusing is that the stitched image is selected when you are modifying the cropping operation. To modify an image processing operation in The Panorama Factory, you view the source image of the operation, not the result image. So in order to modify the cropped image, you must show its source image (the stitched image), not the cropped image itself. I hope this helps! |

Cheers! I have it working now. Your help has been invaluable. This program is absolutely fantastic, much better than VR Worx. |

Mary -- It sounds as though this problem is happening because your image has already been cropped once by the Wizard. You are actually cropping a previously cropped image and this confuses the QTVR export routines. Recropping an image is a little tricky. To crop a QTVR, you should adjust the existing cropping, not create a new cropping. Instructions for doing this are given in the FAQ at http://www.panoramafactory.com/discus/messages/10/204.html I hope this helps!
