Hello,
I'm searching for the right panorama software that can solve this case.
Forget the "out of memory" issues. No problem with that. The problem is that this is a set of images taken from a boat to the shore during 1 hour and the distance was not enough to minimize viewing the building at different angles. I used a tripod, the images are all levelled and the vertical variation is less than 10%. The images overlap around 90%. But I think this is an unusual case. Instead of having the axis of the image on camera (and the scenery surrounds me), I surrounded the scenery (imagine the shore of an island and you navigate and shoot around it, but too close...) and therefoe the axis of rotation is in the scenery itself - this is the case.
I find no way of correctly stitching the images, even if I select less images to make them overlap only 30 to 50%. Is there a way to set Panorama Factory to do this job?

Interesting project. I tried something similar a few years ago and ran into the following problems:
1. Despite using a tripod and level, I found that the boat rocked side to side and that caused my images to change vertical position regardless of what I did with the tripod.
2. You need to stay even to the shoreline. Drifting slightly over the course of an hour will cause the final image to have problems stitching properly.
3. In order to do a proper image in the center you have to go in almost a perfect circle, my guess is that the even if the boat stayed parallel to the shore that the island was not a perfect circle.
All that being said, John has some tips here http://www.panoramafactory.com/komodo_how.html on how to merge images where the camera is on the outside and the image on the inside (note that in his example the camera stayed stationary and the image rotated, but I think the principle is the same).
I am interested to see if you can get some results. The attempt that I made was not nearly as ambitious, 622 is an amazing amount of images to process. Have you tried just merging small sections to see if you can get any results?

Right now I'm only considering the use of 78 'key' images that I've reduced to 2 megapixels size each. I've considerably reduced the original overlap, but the hard part was to choose these images.
Yes, I've tried merging small sections. With the original overlap, results were horrible, even if I changed the min and max overlap settings accordingly. With the new set of 78, merging 5 or 6 produces better results, but most of the errors I still get in the seams are impossible to correct.
The island was just an example. This shore is actually a quarter of a circle, and a quite imperfect one. Some parts are straight, others bend a lot...
The only acceptable stitching method is Document Stitching (Manual). First, I let it stitch the image without placing any points. PF does an acceptable job here. I add them latter by editing the seams individually.
The first test showed me that since the panorama is so wide (I can't even save it in jpeg; only tiff allows this width), I cannot have the horizon correctly leved throughout the whole image. And in the images where I have less water visible than the average, PF seemed to have some problems there. I corrected these by adding a vertical canvas to every image so that the final trimmed image is intact. But I'll have to add sky and water manually to some parts.
So far, PF is still the best in doing this.
