Hello,

Just played around with this software at a friends computer. Nice job!!

One question please... you are all talking about stitching pictures from an inside view. Is it possible to "walk" around an object as lets say a house?

Greetings from the Netherlands

Rick -

Couple of thoughts here. If you are talking about the possibility of being able to look at an object from any angle, yes, but the size of a house, probably not. John actually has a demonstration here:

http://www.panoramafactory.com/komodo.html

He gives some information on how to do it, I have not tried it, but appears that this was done outside of Panoramafactory.

The problem you have is that to do this you need to be able to "spin" the object. Usually this is achieved by placing it on a turntable, which would leave a house out.

Your other option though (which I have tried) is using virtual tours. In this option you could take a picture at each side and each corner of the house, then link them together with hot spots so that the user could "jump" from one set of panoramas to the next.

This would allow you to get almost the same result and this can be done with Panoramafactory. There is an example (these are interiors, but it would work the same for exteriors) here:

Hope this helps,

David

Hi David,

Thanks for the information. Already imagined this would be an option. Hoped however there was an other way (easier) . But will give it a try!!

This can be done with PTviewer I presume?

regards

Rick -

Are you asking if spinning a house is possible with PTViewer or if hotspots is possible?

I would assume (but have not tried) hotspots with PTViewer. I played with hotspots a little last year, just to see what was possible and then never did much.

Spinning a house? You face a myriad of problems. First you would need to find the center of the house, draw a circle equidistant from that position. This circle could not be broken (for proper effect) by tree's, bushes, shrubs, neighbors fence etc. I think this alone would mean that very few houses would have sufficient property for this to work.

The ones that would work would then face the problem of how many images do you need. To properly rotate a small object, I usually see 6-8 images. Each a partial turn equal to the distance from the previous turn.

Due to the size of the circle required for a house you might be talking 50-60 (at least) images. Unless they are all fired at the same time, you are going to have issues with lighting, shadows, etc.

Is it possible, sure, if you really, really wanted to. I have seen some spectacular examples of the outside of vehicles that allowed you to move completely around in an outdoor setting. With creative photography, photoshop, etc. You could do it.

Personally, I think it would be easier to commission a model of the house to be built, put it on a turntable and spin it.

Hope this helps,

David
